about
Prof. Guy Shilo
Researcher and lecturer at the School of Social Work
Tel Aviv University
I have been a lecturer and researcher at the School of Social Work at Tel Aviv University since 2008. In the past, I worked as a social worker and a therapist in a variety of settings: Child and Youth Mental Health Clinic of the Ministry of Health, Enosh - the Israeli Mental Health Association, The Israeli LGBT Association and more. My research focuses on sex, sexuality and gender, and deals with the effects of social stressors on the mental and physical health (including sexual health) of social minorities, especially LGBT and young men and women in prostitution. In addition, my areas of research include social issues related to LGBT families and non-heteronormative families, and paying for sex.
I strive to combine research with policy change and practical assistance to marginalized populations. Therefore, I volunteer to assist various nonprofits in the LGBT community, both conducting field research and drafting and submitting proposals to government and other aid funds.
